Disability Rights Advocate

Kavya Mukhija began advocating for the rights of people with disabilities at 15 years and has represented India at the United Nations, Global Disability Summit Youth, C20 India Summit, SAARC, and UNICEF. In January 2024, through her recommendation, the Jaipur Literature Festival was made accessible for the Deaf and hard-of-hearing visitors by incorporating sign language interpreters at some panel discussions. As the youngest trustee of Chronic Pain India, she co-curated From Invisible to Visible: National Conference on Invisible Disabilities at the International Purple Fest Goa 2024, the first-ever national conference on invisible disabilities in India. The conference was attended by more than 300 participants. In April 2024, she was felicitated with the Rare Star Award for Role Model Living with a Rare Disease (16-30 years) by Organisation for Rare Diseases (ORDI), India. In May 2024, she co-authored a report on the access to education for children with disabilities for the Hon'ble Supreme Court of India.
