Mickey Rowe

A peach gradient background with navy text has “The D-30 Disability Impact List” at the top centered above “2022 Honoree” which is in between two laurels. The words “Mickey Rowe they/them/theirs United States'' is to the left of a picture of Mickey, which fills the right. Mickey is a small white man with light brown hair wearing a navy-blue suit that has a mustard-colored pocket square and pin. At the bottom, “Diversability, #D30DisList.” fills the left corner.

Mickey Rowe (They/them/theirs, He/him/his)

Author, Disability Advocate, Founder, Theatre Artist

United States

Mickey made history a few years ago as the first openly autistic person to professionally play Christopher in Curious Incident and has since then worked as an advocate and speaker for and about disability inclusion in media, not just on the stage or the screen, but behind the scenes as well. He has also mentored several young up-and-coming artists and actors who, before they met him, did not think they would ever be able to succeed in the arts world. Oh and he founded National Disability Theatre. Mickey has the unique experience of being an openly disabled and autistic person who has worked in mainstream equity theatre and has spoken out about how it needs to change for the current and next generations in a way that few others have. He also works his hardest to uplift the voices of other minorities, stepping down from NDT because he wanted a person of color in the leadership position and working with queer disabled artists and musicians to commission for his projects.

Mickey published a book titled "Fearlessly Different" which is part memoir, part disability education. It meets the reader on disability and autism wherever they're at when they pick it up and brings them through to an intimate understanding of what it means to be disabled and what the world looks like when we are not given adequate protection or accommodations as well as the positives of disability. His book tour also spread this message.
