Mike Shoreman (He/him/his)

Disability Advocate and Entrepreneur

Canada

A booming voice for the invisible disabilities community Mike is impacted by hearing, speech, vision, and mobility and vertigo and vestibular issues with his neurological condition. He sets big goals and inspires millions. He is fantastic and is transparent and open with everyone he meets from politicians to media to corporate about his mental health background, and his acquired disabilities, and is open about his sexuality as a gay man, representing the LGBTQ community.

After losing his mobility in 2018, Mike has set out to become the 2nd person and the first person with disabilities to cross all five Great Lakes raising funds for kids in crisis across Canada following the success of his Lake Ontario crossing in 2021. To date, he has raised more than 100,000 dollars for suicide prevention and young Canadians. Last week he became the first person with disabilities to travel from one country to another on a paddleboard with his first crossing.

We asked Mike if he’d like to add anything else to his accomplishments, he stated: “I wrote this piece about suicide prevention that I am very proud of, touching on my personal story of what my acquired disabilities did me and how mental health was not addressed with the physical rehabilitation part of my journey. I am really proud of this piece. https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/shoreman-expand-your-understanding-on-world-suicide-prevention-day”
