Nicole D'Angelo is an Autistic music director who works in theater. They are a passionate advocate for authentic representation and equitable hiring of disabled actors. In 2023 they made their Broadway debut as the assistant music director and script consultant for the musical How to Dance in Ohio, the first Broadway musical to feature Autistic actors playing Autistic characters. As script consultant they helped ensure an accurate and culturally-aware representation of autism, and at the time of the show’s closing they were training to be the first openly Autistic conductor on Broadway. They were also a part of the Drama Desk Award-winning accessibility team (the first of its kind on Broadway), for which they developed accessibility tools for company members and audiences and helped break down barriers for disabled theatregoers and theatremakers alike. Since the show’s closing they have served as an accessibility ambassador by educating other theatremakers about creating accessible theater spaces.
