Zane is a committed disability community advocate involved in several organizations: National Council on Independent Living, Special Olympics, Young Leaders Council for Best Buddies, Young Adult Leadership Council for National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD), & USAID with the Agency Disability Rights Coordinator. He advocated for the disability community while interning at GM by leading a Disability Pride Month campaign on social media. He also started a digital magazine sharing positive mental health & disability stories.
Zane comes from an intersectional middle class background and is a recent university graduate as a first-generation student. He has learning & mental health disabilities. Zane grew up having trouble concentrating in class, leading to depression and anxiety. He is a huge proponent of intersectionality as he identifies as Hispanic, Asian, Black & White identifying as Queer & Bisexual. His work entails the power of storytelling sharing stories of the diverse disabled experience. He understands addressing safe spaces for all is paramount.
This past year, Zane created Landing Dreams PR representing mental health & wellness advocates amplifying their narratives by placing them in platforms like: Authority Magazine, WebMD & several podcasts. He was invited & attended an exclusive event at the White House where he met Selena Gomez, Dr. Murthy, Dr. Jill & President Joe Biden for the first-ever Mental Health Youth Action Forum with MTV collaborating on ways to better address mental health in this country. His work is reshaping mental health conversations.
We asked Zane if he would like to add anything else to his accomplishments and he stated: “I am passionate about using the power of storytelling to shift how our communities are portrayed. I have advocated with students by giving presentations across the nation on implementing disability cultural centers to embrace disability culture. I want to pursue a Ph.D. in I/O Psychology to study how workplace culture can be transformed to include and empower people with disabilities.”
