Winfred Wanja Kirumia (She/her/hers)
Disability advocate, Community based trainer
Kenya
A victim of gender-based violence, Winfred Wanja Kirumia’s poverty level is wanting. Winfred is a disabled epileptic single mother, she stays with her disabled mother and her father is deceased. She is always in forefront of advocating for the rights of women and girls with disabilities and training them on how to fight for their rights. she has been training the community especially women and girls with disabilities on sexual reproductive health rights and issues of gender-based violence.
This past year, Winfred visited more than 500 households of persons with disabilities training and disseminating information which enabled them to form support groups so that they can advocate for their rights plus help them access services with ease.
We asked Winfred if she would like to add anything else to her accomplishments, and she stated: “I have advocated for the rights of young women and girls by encouraging them to participate in community development and deliver ourselves from the yokes of poverty and fight female genital mutilations with disabilities and empowering them by building their capacity through training.”
