Our next community mixer is just ONE day away!
Join us on tomorrow from 7-8:15 ET for our Diversability Soiree: Employment!
Are you worried about how to find or keep a job living with disability? Not sure even what you want to do? Do you want to brush up on your interviewing skills? Curious what it takes to self-advocate in the workplace for proper accessibility and accommodations at every step of the employment process?
We'll be discussing this and much more as we explore all things employment. After a brief intro and general discussion, attendees will have an opportunity to attend three unique break out rooms hosted by Diversability staff and guests. Each one offers a unique perspective on a particular issue related to navigating employment with disabilities. See details below:
Job Interviewing 101, hosted by Jaime Ade - In this break out room, you'll learn useful strategies for effective job interviewing as a person with disabilities. Explore what makes the process unique for us, why it matters, and how to navigate tricky questions that may come up during the hiring process.
Exploring Career Paths, hosted by Alyssa Yam - If you're exploring your career options, this break out room is perfect! Discover where your passion lies, learn to weigh all the options (and what they are), understand the ins and outs of getting started on any path, and maybe even uncover the perfect career you'd never even considered!
Self-Advocating with Invisible Disabilities, hosted by Katherine Lewis - Whatever your career or job, navigating work with invisible disabilities is uniquely challenging. In this break out room, learn step-by-step how to be an effective self-advocate in any workplace environment, better understand available protections and resources, discover how to respond when advocacy is poorly received, and gain empowerment for every stage of your career journey.
Accessibility: ASL interpretation. We will also work with all of our workshop facilitators, and volunteers to make sure they're communicating inclusively.
*We will be using Zoom's closed captioning in the main room, and breakout room host will provide Otter.ai links for closed captioning in the breakout rooms.
