Ekta Bhyan (She/her/hers)

Disability advocate

India

Despite facing adversity of severe physical disability, Ekta went on from representing the country to advocating and winning for the entire community. By involving herself in not just activism but also influencing key stakeholders in her quest to make the world more accessible for disabled people, she has been a figurehead and an inspiration to many. Ekta has been actively working towards increasing awareness for the community. Having cleared the Haryana Civil Services Exam, an international athlete, and a personality with multiple facets of excellence, she is a true embodiment of hard work. Being a woman with a disability, she emphasizes women's education and sports, and their representation in employment. In the Indian context, the literacy and employment rates of women with disabilities are still very poor and she strongly represents them.

This past year Ekta participated at the Tokyo Paralympics in Club Throw and won 2 Gold Medals at the Indian Open - setting a new Asian record.
