Akii Ngo

Disability and Gender Equity Advocate

Australia

Akii has dedicated their entire career & life to disability rights, especially violence prevention for women, girls, feminine-identifying, and non-binary people with disabilities. As a survivor of domestic & intimate partner violence (IPV), they have turned their struggles/pain into strength & passion for making a meaningful difference. They are deeply passionate about intersectionality & real representation, ensuring disabled people have a seat at all the tables & their voices are heard!

2020 was the worst year for IPV due to COVID-19, as sometimes homes aren't always the safest place. As such, Akii has persistently worked within the disability prevention of gendered violence sector to promote trauma-informed practice, using their expertise, passion, and representation of many communities. They also diligently worked within the chronic pain and illness space, talking to all forms of the media & sharing their story to de-stigmatize the use of pain medication for quality of life.

We asked Akii if they would like to add anything else to their accomplishments, and they stated: “I would absolutely love to bring more attention to my work in disability rights, in particular the importance of greater awareness and attention of gendered violence to bring about creating sustainable change.
