Outing: Tech Talks: Diversity, Inclusion and Equity

Tech Talks is a monthly event that brings the worldwide tech community together under the same roof to achieve and improve diversity, inclusion, and equity in the tech space. We aim to represent and influence the interests of all people and abilities in today’s tech industry. We want to ensure that we are aware of the latest trends as well as the realities and history of diversity, inclusion, and equity in tech.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?:

You! I often hear people say, "I'm not in tech," "I'm not [ethnicity] or [disability]," "I already know everything about diversity," or "D&I should be common sense!", but there’s much to be learned by all. Be curious, come open to learning, and be equipped to share what you learned at Tech Talks with your team the next day!

EVENT FRAMEWORK:

With the spirit of a hackathon, we ask the speaker(s) to share their expertise or project with our group. During their presentation, speakers are encouraged to share resources and how their topic might be applied in the real world (i.e. classroom, work, etc.) with the group. At the end of the presentation, S(he) will present the audience (you) with 3 problems s(he) needs help solving.

Your mission will be to come up with small, actionable steps the speaker can take that will have an immediate impact on our industry and/or lives. Audience engagement is highly encouraged. We'll use live polling, small groups, roundtables, share back, etc. to come up with concepts, share experiences, and provide our speaker with solutions.

EVENT BREAKDOWN:

5:45 - Event set up
6:15 - Doors open
6:30 - Event start
7:45 - Event end
8:00 - Clean up

Accessibility: Ring the 4th floor and take elevator to 4th floor. The Old Street station does not have lifts. Attendees need to take the train to King's Cross and take a bus from there to Futurice site.

SPEAKER REQUEST:

Tech Talks is always pleased to consider new speakers and topics to keep our programs fresh and relevant. While we welcome your participation and expertise, please note that we cannot provide an honorarium; this is a volunteer/pro-bono opportunity.
