Award-winning winning artist and advocate, Lachi, just released her new project MAD DIFFERENT. Mad Different is a high-production content series of four acoustic concerts and accompanying interviews featuring Lachi in collaboration with notable co-artists and thought leaders intersecting with varying Counter-Cultures. Shot in Amazon Music studios and supported by Pop Culture Collaborative and New Music USA, Mad Different amplifies showing up authentically in a world hellbent on perfection.

The featured song, Out of the Dark, is a power ballad with a soulful sway. The lyrics remind listeners that they are never alone, even in darkness. “ And when you're lonely, I got you.

And when I'm low, you got me too.” The original recording of Out of the Dark,  in addition to the acoustic version, can also be streamed on all major streaming channels. A sentimental behind the scenes with Lachi and Medusa reflects the deep intentions behind this song and what being “mad different” means to them.

The next three songs of the Mad Different project will drop between November and January.

  • A GIRL is sung by 3 blind women of color - Lachi, Jennifer Renée, and Precious Perez. This folk song discusses the trials and celebrates the triumphs of being a woman. You can listen to A Girl here or visit Lachi’s YouTube channel for the upcoming music video after November 19th.

  • DIS EDUCATION will be released in early December on International Day of Persons with Disabilities. This pop piano song celebrates the pride in being an independent person with a disability while stifling misconceptions.

  • THAT KINDA BLACK will be released in the weeks leading up to Black History Month. This spoken word/rap track tackles Lachi’s very personal journey as a black immigrant dealing with American prejudice, featuring her brother Frank Nitty.

It’s evident that Mad Different is already a monumental project that will tackle topics of disability, queerness, Blackness, and womanhood — all areas that Lachi advocates for.
