Recap: Masks for the Disability Community #Masks4Disability
On May 25, 2020, in partnership with the San Francisco Global Shapers, we launched #Masks4Disability, a project to distribute masks to members of the disability community during the Covid-19 pandemic.
On May 24, 2021, we shipped out our final supply of masks.
In the U.S. our masks reached disabled people in 112 cities across 35 states. We then distributed the rest of our masks to disabled community members in the Bahamas, Peru, and India.
Many thanks are in order:
Disability Culture Crip & Ally Care Exchange for letting us expand upon their initiative to distribute masks to disabled people
Mandatory Studio and Nancy B. for donating our initial supply of masks
Kimuli Fashionability for making masks that not only used upcycled African fabrics but were also made by disabled people in Uganda
San Francisco Global Shapers for helping us cover shipping costs
A micro-grant from REALITY, an initiative of the Charles and Lynn Schusterman Family Foundation, that allowed us to purchase a supply for accessible face masks
The pandemic is not over yet, and we recommend following the guidance of the CDC around masks.
