Zipporah Syombua Mwangangi, She/her/hers

Zipporah Syombua Mwangangi is a disability inclusion advocate, community leader, and director of Zipcare Women Initiative, an organization she co-founded after becoming disabled in a 2017 bus accident. Before her injury, she worked as a nurse at The Mater Hospital and collaborated with organizations including HOYMAS Kenya, Aphia Plus, and TAPWAK. Drawing on her professional experience and lived experience of disability, Zipporah now works to advance health, education, economic stability, mental wellbeing, and civic participation in her community. Since mid-2024, she has provided mental health training to 150 people with disabilities and caregivers, helping participants develop tools to manage their wellbeing and support one another. She also secured seed capital for 60 women and people with disabilities, enabling them to launch businesses and strengthen their families’ economic security. Through her leadership, community members have gained greater confidence to participate in civic governance and advocate for their rights. Zipporah’s dedication has earned her recognition on International Women’s Day, as well as acknowledgment from the Kenya Revenue Authority for representing her community after facilitating business and tax training. Through Zipcare Women Initiative, she continues to turn lived experience into community empowerment and lasting change.
