Prof. Wisdom Kwadwo Mprah is a pioneering Deaf professor, disability studies scholar, and academic leader advancing disability inclusion through research, education, and policy in Ghana. As Head of the Department of Health Promotion and Disability Studies, he has helped strengthen the field of disability studies and challenge perceptions about the capabilities and leadership of disabled people. His research has informed advocacy on disability issues and contributed to the development of a PhD program in Disability Studies and a distinct academic department dedicated to the field. Prof. Mprah also helped introduce Ghanaian Sign Language as a required course for all students in the College of Health Sciences, supporting the development of future disability and health professionals. His policy work includes participation in committees reviewing Ghana’s Persons with Disability Act, curriculum and inclusive education frameworks, and disability policies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. As the first Deaf Head of Department at his university, his leadership itself represents a significant shift in institutional expectations and representation. Prof. Mprah has received multiple awards from the disability community and KNUST. Through scholarship, teaching, and policy engagement, he is helping build stronger disability rights and inclusion systems in Ghana.
