Matisse Hamel-Nelis is an internationally award-winning Métis accessible communications consultant, advocate, educator, and writer based in Toronto, dedicated to making digital content usable by everyone. Through consulting, training, speaking, and writing, she helps organizations embed accessibility into communications from the beginning, including emails, PDFs, videos, websites, and social media. Her work transforms accessibility from an afterthought into a fundamental part of effective communication. Over the past year, Matisse co-authored Accessible Communications (Kogan Page, 2025), a practical guide for integrating accessibility into everyday professional practice. She has continued to advance accessible communications through her podcast PR & Lattes, international speaking engagements, and teaching, including her leadership of Durham College’s Public Relations Graduate Certificate program. Her work helps organizations remove barriers while equipping a new generation of communicators with the knowledge to prioritize accessibility. By combining professional expertise with advocacy, Matisse is helping create clearer, more inclusive communications and ensuring that disabled people can access the information they need to participate fully in society.
